The SHERWOOD PROJECT
THE BRIEF
The Sherwood Project is a community program dedicated to enabling artists through the production of NFTs. Co-founded by film makers Matt Silverman and Luke Dale, this project would launch, a total of 8333 “NFSeeds” to be sold to the public. They would also be filming a documentary about the whole process, which was to be funded through a portion of the sale of these NFSeeds.
NFSeeds, though artfully designed themselves, would essentially be placeholders, a blank canvas for an undiscovered artist to design and propagate. An artist would be chosen, funded and mentored to transform the NFSeeds into NFTrees: the final form of the NFT.
Matt and Luke found me through TikTok, and asked me to help them brand their NFT project before starting the process of selecting the artist who would ultimately create the NFTs for them.
THE SOLUTION
This project was one of the most rewarding and transparent processes I’ve ever experienced in brand design. You can watch us all talk through the process on Matt’s Youtube Channel. The guys had me on their podcast to talk through the design choices and how we got to the final result.
The final logo uses a digitised version of an acorn at the base of a geodesic sphere which represents the NFTree. Inside, the central triangle faces east and resembles a play button, which represents the documentary and film making portion of the project. The ‘nodes’ inside the design also have the benefit of reflecting the connections between the project community members.
Watch the YouTube Video for how we got there, and also to see another variation that we ended up scrapping.
